Fatal Motorcycle Horror Shuts Manchester Airport Link Road for Hours
A motorcyclist tragically died following a serious, single-vehicle collision on the A555 Manchester Airport Eastern Link Road on Sunday, April 26. The major road was closed for several hours as police and paramedics responded, with authorities now appealing for witnesses to aid their ongoing investigation.
A major road near Manchester Airport was closed by police throughout Sunday afternoon, April 26, following a serious collision involving a motorbike. Police and paramedics swiftly responded to the scene on the Manchester Airport Eastern Link Road (A555), immediately cordoning off the area. Alongside the main thoroughfare, Woodford Road and adjacent cycle routes were also taped off as authorities managed the incident. All traffic was temporarily halted for several hours while the police response was underway.
The A555 was completely shut in both directions, specifically between the A5149 Chester Road and A523 Macclesfield Road. An air ambulance was also dispatched and landed nearby, joining traffic officers and paramedics on the scene. Pictures from the area depicted significant traffic congestion throughout the afternoon, with motorists eventually being slowly released and re-routed. Greater Manchester Police advised drivers to steer clear of the affected zone, with a spokesperson stating, "We are dealing with a serious incident on the A555 Manchester Airport Relief Road between Cheadle and Poynton with both sides of the carriageway currently closed. Motorists are advised to stay clear of the area."
Later, Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a motorcyclist had tragically died as a result of the collision. The incident, which occurred at approximately 12:40 pm, was identified as a single-vehicle crash, with no other vehicles believed to be involved. The deceased was identified as a male rider in his 30s.
The Serious Collision Investigation Unit has taken charge of the inquiry and is actively appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
